Dick Winger, who supplied hot sauce to the bar, went on the road with the owners’ son, Dominic Bellissimo, to promote and sell hot sauce, and the item rapidly caught on with restaurant operators across the country.  The concept gained popularity when McDonald’s began offering Mighty Wings in certain of its outlets in 1990.  A year later, KFC debuted Hot Wings, while Domino’s Pizza introduced their own wings in 1994.  They have been popular ever since.  McDonald’s returned to the wing market in 2013, and their Mighty Wings were available in most outlets nationally until the first quarter of 2014.

Crispy Buffalo Wings Recipe

  1. Cut the chicken wings in half to remove the drums from the wingettes. With a paper towel, pat the wings dry. Preheat the oven to 350°F and line a rimmed baking sheet with foil, then lay a wire rack on top.
  2. Combine baking powder, salt, and garlic powder to make dry seasoning.
  3. Season the wings – with a large mixing basin, toss the chicken wings with the dry seasoning until well-coated. Arrange the wings in a single layer on top of the rack.
  4. Bake for 50 minutes in the center of the oven, turning halfway through.
  5. To make the Buffalo Sauce, combine the melted butter, sugar, and hot sauce in a medium mixing bowl.
  6. Toss Wings in Sauce – Place chicken wings in a mixing bowl and toss to coat. Drizzle with sauce and toss again. Serve with your preferred sauce.
